Hypoxia: stacking / auto-PEEP

Air trapping can worsen oxygenation and cause hypotension.

Act

  • Bag slowly; allow full exhalation.
  • Lower RR and shorten inspiratory time/increase inspiratory flow as appropriate.
  • Treat bronchospasm and dyssynchrony.
  • Consider brief disconnect if crashing and air trapping is suspected.
